Brian Tremain was one of the founding members of the Association of Historical and Fine Art Photographers. He was a prolific creative, who worked across several major national museums in London for decades, including the Science Museum and the V&A in the 1950-60, National Maritime Museum between 1960-80s, and the British Museum from the late 1980s through to the 19190s. In his last place of work, he hosted the first few AHFAP meetings in his office at Montague.
The archive of his prints and transparencies, donated to AHFAP in early 2025, offers unique opportunity to explore museum photography’s evolution, technical advancements, and key moments in the AHFAP's history through the lens of a founding association member. Brian’s Family has also generously sponsored an annual bursary in remembrance of him for a number of years, aiming to help fund attendance at the association’s annual conference.
